Avni Sharma,
LL.M. '25

President

Avni is an experienced international arbitration practitioner. She specializes in international commercial arbitration under various institutional rules and arbitration-related litigation.  She is an India-qualified lawyer with over five years of experience as counsel at the chambers of a prominent Senior Advocate/Barrister based in New Delhi, India. Avni has published various articles and chapters in treatises on commercial law and international arbitration. She is currently in the LL.M. program at Georgetown Law as an “International Arbitration Scholar”.

Laura Lamo,
LL.M. '25

Vice-President

Laura is a Colombian-trained lawyer with over 7 years of experience in dispute resolution, specializing in domestic and international commercial arbitration. She is currently pursuing an LL.M. with a certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution as a Merit Scholar. Previously, she served as a senior associate in the arbitration team of a tier-1 Ibero-American law firm, where she handled complex cases in the construction and oil and gas sectors.

Angelika Murer,

Treasurer

Angelika is a Swiss trained lawyer and lecturer with extensive experience in dispute resolution, with a particular focus on multinational intellectual property disputes. After four years of working in the dispute resolution team of a tier-1 law firm in Zurich, she is the current Kronstein Scholar at Georgetown Law. Besides her LL.M. in General Studies, she is pursuing a Certificate in Arbitration. Angelika holds a PhD in antitrust and patent law and is a regular speaker at conferences. Recently, she was listed as Rising Star Switzerland by Managing IP.

Anne-Sarah Maleville

Secretary

Anne-Sarah is qualified in both Common and civil laws, mainly trained in France, Ireland and Scotland. She specializes in both commercial and investment arbitration, and regularly intervenes during conferences and symposiums to present her research work on transnational law, arbitration and climate change or current ISDS criticism. Anne-Sarah has worked for Gaillard Banifatemi Shelbaya Disputes in Paris, and Legance Avvocati Associati in Rome before joining Georgetown as part of the dual LL.M./M.IA. offered with Sciences Po. She is also the founder of The Arbitration Event Tracker.

Eun Young Nam,
LL.M. '25

Co-Secretary

Eun Young possesses over four years of experience in the Korean government. She has served as a Legal Officer in the International Legal Affairs Division at the Ministry of Justice and as a Deputy Director in the WTO Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. In addition, she has served the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and its Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific for two years as a Legal Expert seconded by the Korean government. Currently, she is pursuing an LL.M. in International Legal Studies at Georgetown with a Merit Scholarship, focusing on arbitration and dispute resolution. She holds an LL.M. in Oil and Gas Law and Policy from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee, and has completed Ph.D. coursework in Public International Law at Seoul National University.

Caroline Lauk,

Arbitration Month Lead Event Organizer

Caroline, of Swiss nationality, is trained as both a Comparative Lawyer and a Spanish-qualified lawyer, she brings dual expertise that bridge both civil and common law traditions. Upon completing the New York Bar Exam in July 2025, she will be triple-qualified in the UK, Spain, and New York. Caroline has published in leading arbitration journals and brings work experience from globally recognized firms, inter alia WilmerHale (Gary Born’s team in London), Ritch Mueller (Mexico City), and Gleiss Lutz (Stuttgart). She has worked both on the counsel and the arbitrator-side.

Ignacio Tasende,

Arbitration Month Co-Organizer

Ignacio is a Uruguayan lawyer with experience in international arbitration at FERRERE, a GAR-100 ranked firm. He represented, inter alia, a Fortune 500 company in an ICC case against a state-owned entity in the oil & gas sector, and an investor in an ICSID case against a Latin American state. Additionally, he has served as secretary to arbitral tribunals in ICC cases. Ignacio has published articles, presented at conferences, and held leadership roles in international arbitration organizations. As a student, he was recognized in 2020 as the Second Best Oralist at the most prestigious moot court competition in Latin America.

Joselina Martins,

Arbitration Month Co-Organizer

Joselina is an Argentine-qualified lawyer specializing in international dispute resolution. She is currently pursuing an LL.M. in International Legal Studies with a Certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. She has served as in-house counsel for high-stakes international cases, including two multi-billion dollar disputes in the United States. Additionally, she coordinates the Subcommittee for the Review and Update of Regulations within the Youth Commission of the Commercial Mediation and Arbitration Center (CEMARC) at the Argentine Chamber of Commerce. She has also taught courses on Private International Law and Negotiation of International Contracts.​

Thi Thuong,

Arbitration Month Co-Organizer

Thi Thuong Le is a dispute resolution practitioner with nearly a decade of experience in both Vietnam and international legal contexts. She has handled complex commercial disputes across a variety of sectors, including corporate law, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), construction, insurance, the sale of goods, and capital markets. Additionally, she has expertise in investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) and construction adjudication. Currently, Thuong is both a Fulbright Scholar and a Georgetown Law Merit Scholar, pursuing an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law with a certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution.

Lucía Mendieta,

Admitted to the bar in Colombia in April 2020, Lucía is currently pursuing an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law at Georgetown University, where she has been recognized as an International Arbitration Scholar. Her professional journey includes working at a top-tier law firm in Colombia, where she advised and represented clients in high-stakes commercial arbitrations, particularly in complex infrastructure and M&A disputes with claims. Her earlier experience includes leading impactful pro bono initiatives that earned her firm prestigious accolades, as well as a valuable internship at the Constitutional Court of Colombia.

Momin has a robust academic background in law and diverse experience across three different jurisdictions. He is currently pursuing an LLM at Georgetown Law. He earned his JD from George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School in 2024, where he served as Executive Editor of the International Law Journal. Additionally, he holds an LLB (Hons.) from the University of Nottingham, UK. His work has been featured in the Santa Clara Journal of International Law, and he has an upcoming publication in the Northwestern Journal of Human Rights.

Dakshita Chopra,

Dakshita is an India qualified lawyer who has worked in the dispute resolution practice of two of the largest law firms in India. In her role as an Associate, she has worked on contentious arbitrations in the energy, advertising and infrastructure sectors. She has also been involved in insolvency and white collar crime litigation that has led to landmark judgments in the areas of government as a secured creditor, right to set off in an insolvency proceeding and the coal block scam in the country.

Gabriel Obando,

Professional Development Chair

Gabriel is a Costa Rican lawyer with extensive experience in dispute resolution and public international law. He has handled complex arbitration cases, including joint venture and distributorship disputes at Dentons Muñoz and Artavia & Barrantes in Costa Rica, and worked on class actions with Nelson Champagne Avocats in Montreal. As a legal consultant for the World Health Organization and the Inter-American Development Bank, he advised on international administrative proceedings and investment contracts. Gabriel holds an LLM from McGill University, where he led the Graduate Law Students Association, and is now pursuing an LLM in Technology Law and Policy at Georgetown University

Facundo Marcone,

Facundo is a merit scholar Argentine lawyer with a diverse experience in dispute resolution, corporate and Fintech & Digital Assets. He worked in Dentons Rattagan Arocena leading the FinTech & Digital Assets practice advising on market expansion, landing of products, and regulatory compliance in Argentina and Latin America. He litigated commercial and administrative disputes for Tech, Oil & Gas and maritime companies. He specialized in settling claims and obtaining favorable results for its clients. Concurrently, he worked in the corporate restructuring of a group of companies and in several M&A transactions.

Faith Abraham,

Alumni Chair

Faith is a Nigerian national with legal education obtained from Ukraine, Switzerland and the U.S.A. Faith began his legal career in 2016 at the Law Clinic of National University “Odessa Law Academy” (Ukraine). Since then, he has worked at various law firms and organisations, including the Aequo Law firm, Branch office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in Odessa, the World Trade Organization (WTO) (Geneva, Switzerland), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) (Washington D.C, U.S.A), amongst others. He currently works with the World Bank (IBRD) as a Consultant. His area of expertise largely centres around international dispute settlement (including arbitration), and trade in services and investment.

Xi Chen,

J.D. Representative

Xi Chen is a 1L at Georgetown University Law Center with a background in Chinese law and a focus on international arbitration. She has worked on cross-border dispute resolution projects in both China and the U.S. and holds an LL.M. from GULC, along with a certificate in international arbitration and dispute resolution. Xi looks forward to advancing GIAS initiatives and contributing her global perspective to the community.

Natalia is a Spanish–trained legal practitioner. She holds an LL.M. in International Business Law from ESADE Law School and completed a semester at Columbia Law School as part of her LL.B. and B.A. in Global Governance studies. She has worked at Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira in Barcelona, where she participated in commercial arbitration proceedings, and at Kniprath López, a German boutique firm specializing in arbitration and international disputes.

Communications Coordinator

Satvik is an advocate qualified to practice law in India with 5 years of experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He specializes in domestic and international commercial arbitration as well as in insolvency & bankruptcy law. He is currently pursuing an LL.M. with a certificate in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution as a Merit Scholar. Before pursuing his LL.M., Satvik clerked with a judge of the High Court of Delhi and prior to his clerkship he has also worked as an associate in the corporate disputes team of a reputed law firm in India.
